The Australian Business Council will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 6.30pm on Thursday 13 March 2025 at Zaebeel House, The Greens. The AGM gives our Chair, Dr Naim Maddad, along with the ABC Board of Directors, the opportunity to share with you what has been achieved over the past year as well as projects and developments planned for the year to come.


Networking drinks will be held following the AGM.


What is happening at the 2025 AGM?


  • The election of the 2025 – 2027 ABC Board of Directors
  • An update on the implementation of new Articles of Association (approved March 2024)
  • 2024 – 2025 Annual Report
  • Announcement of new Honorary Members


What is the ABC Board of Directors and What Does it Do?


The ABC is a dynamic, business-focused not-for-profit organisation that aims to inform and support our expat community living and working in Dubai and across the GCC. We are proud to be the largest and oldest Australian business group in the Gulf and are a respected voice of the Australian business community in the UAE. Our mission is to support and nurture the Australian community in the UAE through an active events calendar, information sharing and business connections.


The role of the Board of Directors is to support these aims by bringing business experience and expertise to the leadership team and acting as advocates of the ABC and its members to the wider UAE business community.



What does it take to be on the ABCD Board of Directors?


Time, Energy, Commitment, Discipline, and Integrity. You also need to be:


  • a current financial member of the ABC;
  • currently engaged in at least in a C-Level management role.


Board terms beyond two (2) consecutive two (2) year terms are permitted to serve a further term following consent from at least 30 voting members.


Board members are required to attend monthly board meetings, assume responsibility for a portfolio (for example event planning or membership) and act as advocates for the ABC throughout their term. The day-to-day operations of the ABC are overseen by a General Manager and small executive team.



How to join the ABC Board of Directors?


Potential board members must be nominated by a current financial member of the ABC. You can find the Nomination Form here. Nominations must be submitted to the ABC by 5pm Monday 10 March 2025 and you will be required to provide a short bio and pitch explaining what you can bring to the ABC Board.


On Tuesday 11 March 2025 the ABC website will be updated with a list of all nominees.


The election will take place at the AGM on Thursday 13 March 2025. If you cannot attend the AGM but would still like your vote to count, you can submit a proxy vote to the General Manager of the ABC by 5pm Wednesday 12 March 2025. You can find the Proxy Form here.
