About Our Host: David Russell KC
David Russell AM RFD KC is a distinguished Australian barrister and long-serving member of the Liberal Party of Australia, with a distinguished history of political and legal leadership. He has held several senior roles within the party, including serving as Federal President of the Liberal Party from 2005 to 2008, and remains a respected voice on constitutional, taxation, and policy matters. His deep understanding of the Australian political landscape makes him an authoritative commentator on national elections and their broader impact.
With a legal career commencing in 1974, he has been admitted to practice in multiple jurisdictions, including Australia, England and Wales (Lincoln's Inn), the Courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre, New York (as a Legal Consultant), New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.
Appointed Queen's Counsel in 1986, David has represented Commonwealth and State Governments, as well as individuals and corporations, across various legal matters. He has held prominent positions such as President of the Taxation Institute of Australia (1993–1995) and the Asia Oceania Tax Consultants' Association (1996–2000). In recognition of his service to taxation law and legal education, David was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2012.
Beyond his political contributions in Australia, David has played an influential role in the UAE legal and business community, where he is admitted to practice before the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts. He is widely regarded for his expertise in international tax and estate law and is active in advising both individuals and corporations operating across borders.
